3rd Wave

[Jones is a deep, deep sleeper but he wakes with the sunrise. Each day is a new, hellish experience on the Barge but he scowls and stomps his way through them regardless.

Imagine his surprise when this morning he opens his door - releasing a small flood of his usual seawater, which, thanks to Maintenance, is contained by a make-shift dam - and spots children running about.

Not the handful of children he knows to be part of the Barge. New ones. And smaller people are easier to bully than full-grown ones.

Resolving to go about his day unbothered by the mechanics of the Admiral, Davy instead storms his way to the mess hall, literally using his claw to forcefully swat aside anyone smaller than four feet]


I'll thank whoever remains their true, full size to keep the vast majority of whelps under control. I've a mind to toss them over the side one by one; no ship is in need of this many cabin boys. No navy is.

Mind your brats. Or I will.

[An explosive, cold rage seems to be taking over Davy's features. He seems to be reining in his temper, but only just. One more step and the kid's getting keelhauled]

Oh hey, you think you can get Flipper's autograph for me?

[Nope, that's it; overturning the mess table he's sitting in, Jones turns and limps out of the cafeteria, bound and determined to find Stark]

[Stark's still at his table with the cups and ball. He grins when Davy shows up.]

Hey Octopussy, didn't think you'd get it so fast. Thanks.

[He should've probably run, but then again, Stark's not one for running so much. Once you start that, you never stop.]

[Nope; too furious for words. Jones' claw swoops down to snatch up Stark by the front of his shirt; if the boy's fast, ducking around it won't be a problem. And if he has common sense enough to run.]

[Stark is quick, but he's not that smart. He manages to dodge the claw, but he doesn't make a run for it.]

Hey man, we haven't even played the game yet. You should at least wait for me to rob you blind before getting that pissed off.

[Nope; going in for the grab again. Jones kneels down to better scoop up Stark, on a mission of destruction]

[Stark finally moves away from him as fast his feet can carry him, but he's not running completely away.]

You really don't have anything better to do than try and kill an eleven year old?

[Welp. Chasing the kid won't get him anywhere; Davy snatches up a chair and contemplates throwing it at the little twerp]

I happen to find the idea enjoyable.

We gotta talk about priorities or somethin' then, pal. Because that's no way to go through life.

[Nope; throwing the chair one way to try and coax Stark to run the other in order to grab him. Davy doesn't do negotiating]

[Stark does move away from the chair once it's flung, but he's not wanting to get close to Jones if he can help it and tries to move as little as possible.]

Gotta admit, I never had you pegged for the strong, silent type.

[The boy is trouble. Jones begins the process of attempting to shoo him out of the mess hall completely, storming over to him in an attempt to herd him to the door or against a wall]

Do not test me, boy.

I wouldn't dream of it.

[Stark doesn't have the exact battle experience he does as a grown-up, but he's been in enough scuffles that he's remaining mindful of the walls. Once he's to the door, he bolts.]
