[at dinnertime, a new face appears in the pub. He's old and he's an inmate, fiddling with an odd pocketwatch with one hand and hugging a Maine Coon cat in the other. Still, he navigates the Barge like he's been here for months. If anyone were to look closely they might determine that it's Tentacle Beard himself, disguised as a human.

He drops down in a booth, setting the cat on the table, and begins to order drinks.

Lots and lots of drinks.

Midway through, he starts singing;]

It's not alcohol but you might like it. [ Time to get a round of fizzy soda pop, because honestly, he hasn't tried fizzy soda pop? ]

If it ain't alcohol, I already don't like it.

[But this is said with some amusement; Davy is taking advantage of what may be the one and only time he can successfully get drunk on the Barge]

Pfft, give it a try.

And if you like it, There's some other things with soda we can give you that do have booze in it!

[ He's helping you get shitfaced, okay? ]

[He gives a suspicious look to Hood, before drinking deep, hiccuping at the end of it]


...Well, it ain't rum.

No, that it isn't. Sweet and sugary. The good stuff is made, small batch -- proper sarsaparilla and... [ he sighs ] I love the stuff when a good brewery makes it.

[He gives a nod, drinking more of it to absorb the flavor]

Yeh know a lot of it.

I did a lot of odd jobs, after -- [ he gesture to his Glasgow Grin ] the scars. Not the bleach. Couldn't get up on stage anymore, but I managed to be interesting enough behind a bar.

[He eyes the scars without flinching; he's seen far worse in his day]

Int'resting. There's the word for it.

Didn't last, though. [ He was uncomfortable with the looks, the questions. ] Got a chemical plant job, and that was better.

[Jones knows a thing or two about not wanting to be seen. He gives a quick, dark nod]

An' yeh didn't stay out of trouble.

[sickjoke]

Who learns their lesson the first time, really? [ He shrugs his shoulders. ]

No one I know of. An' that includes me.

[sickjoke]

Well, that just means you're in good company!

If yeh say so. We're on a ship of fools.

All ships are filled with fools, it seems.

As anywhere. But the Barge has the most prolific set.

[ He shrugs slightly, grinning. ]

Yeah, well, we're all still here, aren't we?

Mmm. Not sure yet. I'll find one eventually. [ He drains the last of his glass. ]

Yer an odd sort, Hood. I can't make head or tail of yeh.

[sickjoke]

[ His grin reappears, and it's-- very very broad, very wide. ]

[The cat, an ordinary quiet sort, puts her paw on Hood's hand. Hello, sir. She would like some pets.

Davy only snorts and drinks more of the strange liquid he'd been offered]

I'm just a little screwloose, aren't I, pretty moggy? [ His pale fingers wind into the cats fur, scratching her chin gently. ] That's all.
