I am dead. I have lived decades more'n any man, I have lost my pet, my ship, my crew, my love, if I ever had it, and now my freedom.

Yeh know nothing of it.

I am... a plant... that thought it was... a man. Nothing... is what I... thought it was. I have... been living... a lie. Death... is long. There is... time.

Yeh don't want to be a man. Men only feel heartbreak and are good for little else.

Men... feel love... hope... joy... despair. They are... capable... of much.

It is preferable to feel nothing at all.

It... is not your choice... what you feel... or do not feel.

It is my choice not to feel. I tore my heart out decades ago.

I do not know... how such a thing... is possible. I never had... a beating heart.

They're overrated.

[ He grunts noncommittally, though with his voice it sounds very much like wind through a forest. ]

An' they only cause pain, once they're done buildin' yeh up.

[ He makes that noncommittal creaking sound again. ]

[ So he's a little preoccupied with his own thoughts. ]

Yer a creature not fit to walk among humans. Take that and keep it to yerself.

If she's a woman, you're best not giving your fate to such a creature.

What we want... is not often... what is best for us.

Then we must learn to deny what our hearts desire, lest we lose them forever.
